Phuket combines a beach holiday with things for children, but each beach has its own waves and each park its own height limits. Below are beaches, areas and activities with prices and hours checked on 19 October 2026 against official sites. Age limits for the tours themselves, motion sickness and heat are covered separately on the page about excursions with kids in Phuket.
Which beach to choose with children
The main rule: west-coast beaches face the waves from May to October, and a red flag means stay out of the water. What the municipalities say:
| Beach | Official description | For children |
|---|---|---|
| Kata Noi | short, no nightclubs or bars, clean and calm water almost all year | suits families according to the municipality, watch the flag in monsoon |
| Kata | suitable for swimming, reef runs to Ko Pu island, popular with surfers | a good choice in winter, waves in summer |
| Nai Harn | very strong waves from May to October | not for swimming in summer |
| Ya Nui | small bay, crowded in season, no taxis, little parking | needs a car, open to the sea |
| Rawai | mud and rocks, not suitable for swimming | not for swimming |
For summer, island residents have a tip: the east coast, Ao Yon and Panwa bays, is sheltered from the west swell. That is residents’ experience, not official data, and details with caveats are in the guide to calm beaches in Phuket. On flags see red flag and rip current.
Where a family should stay
These are conclusions from the area descriptions on our site, not an assessment of accommodation quality.
- Kata and Kata Noi. For families with small children who need a quiet beach: Kata Noi is 800 m from Kata. About 52 minutes to the airport. See the Kata area
- Karon. A beach of about 3 km, but the municipality writes that waves and wind are fairly strong, which is awkward for toddlers from May to October. See the Karon area
- Patong. Shopping centres and a state hospital nearby, but noisy: the Bangla Road bars run late. See the Patong area
- Rawai and Nai Harn. The quiet south, but the beaches are not for swimming in summer. See the Rawai area
- Chalong. The centre of the south with schools, but no beach for swimming. See the Chalong area

The elephant sanctuary has no riding, which matters when you choose: what shelters do and do not do is covered in the guide to elephants without riding. Free things to do with children are Old Town and the Big Buddha, and a list of places with hours is in what to see in Phuket.
Evening shows and parks
| Place | Days | Children | Child price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carnival Magic | Monday, Wednesday, Saturday | height 101-140 cm, free up to 100 cm with no separate seat | 2,100 baht admission only, 2,400 baht with buffet |
