Where Nai Harn is

Nai Harn sits in the southwest of Phuket, just north of Promthep Cape. It has no subdistrict of its own: the beach, the lake and the streets around them belong to Rawai subdistrict and Rawai Municipality. So all official statistics, from population to property valuations, are reported for Rawai as a whole: 19,659 registered residents in December 2025.

What people mean by Nai Harn:

  • Nai Harn Beach. The municipality describes a fairly long beach of fine, not especially white sand, popular with foreigners for sunbathing, with souvenir stalls nearby
  • Nai Harn Lake and park. Locals call the lake Nong Han; around it is a public park with shade and exercise trails (Rawai Municipality)
  • Ao Sane. A small cove next to Nai Harn, mentioned in the municipality’s beach description
  • Laem Krating. A steep, scrubby headland with a sunset viewpoint
  • Ya Nui and Promthep Cape. Ya Nui is about 10 minutes north of Promthep, with restaurants and sunbeds

Who Nai Harn suits

  • People who want a lakeside park and a beach without beach bars. The Rawai municipality lists the Nong Han lake park, with its health trails and shade, among the area’s landmarks, and official descriptions of Nai Harn mention no beach bars
  • People who want Phuket Old Town 23 minutes away. It is 17.9 km from Nai Harn without traffic, and Kata is 9.0 km, 12 minutes
  • Dry-season swimmers. December to March is the driest stretch in the south, from 24 mm of rain in February to 82 mm in December in the TMD normals, and the sea is calmer
  • People who want Rawai pier 6 minutes away. Rawai pier is 3.3 km, 6 minutes away, with boats to Racha Yai, Koh He and Koh Lon
  • Families for whom a school and a doctor matter. Rawai subdistrict has three MOE-licensed international schools, and the state Chalong Hospital is 8.1 km from the beach, about 13 minutes

Who should look elsewhere

  • People for whom 59 minutes from the airport is too much. HKT is 48 km away, 59 minutes without traffic by OSRM, the longest airport run among the southern areas
  • Anyone who wants to swim at the door in the monsoon. The Rawai municipality says plainly that from May to October the waves are very strong and the water is best avoided, and November is a transition month with 16 rainy days. See what a red flag means on Phuket beaches
  • Anyone counting on a Smart Bus to the beach itself. There is no dedicated Smart Bus stop in Nai Harn, the nearest are Sai Yuan and Rawai Beach, and the municipality notes there are no taxis and little parking at Ya Nui
  • People who choose an area for evenings in bars. Official descriptions of Nai Harn mention no beach bars. For that, head to Patong

Rain and rainy days are Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) 1991-2020 normals for the Phuket Town station, the nearest to Nai Harn. The sea column follows Rawai Municipality’s beach description. Full normals are on Phuket weather by month; where to swim in the wet season is in our guide to calm beaches in Phuket.

Property and prices in Nai Harn

Nai Harn has no valuation of its own: the Treasury reports by subdistrict. Rawai’s median is THB 51,500 per m² across 33 residential condo buildings, the middle half between THB 34,750 and 72,800, against an island median of THB 48,250. This is the appraisal used for transfer fees and taxes, not a sale price. The method is the same across the site and explained on the Rawai page.

Living in Nai Harn: schools, hospitals, shops, transport

Schools. The Ministry of Education’s private school register (OPEC) lists three international schools in Rawai subdistrict: Lighthouse at Phuket International School (Soi Salika), Lighthouse at Rawai International School and Innovative Sustainable Pathway International School Phuket. The main state school on the OBEC list is Wat Sawang Arom, kindergarten to grade 9, with 833 pupils in the 2020 data. Seven more international schools are registered in neighbouring Chalong.

Hospitals. There is no licensed inpatient hospital in Rawai (Ministry of Public Health HSS list, 2026-07-31). The nearest state hospital is Chalong Hospital, officially opened on 29 January 2024: 8.1 km from Nai Harn Beach, about 13 minutes (route). Private Bangkok Hospital Phuket, which advertises a 24/7 emergency service, is 19.9 km away, about 26 minutes (route).

Shops. OpenStreetMap shows 15 places tagged as supermarkets, 6 markets and 1 mall in Rawai subdistrict as of 2026-10-17. Chains on the map include two Tops, a Lotus’s go fresh and two Makro stores. The chains’ own store locators would not load, so locations are map-only. The big Central Phuket malls are in Wichit on the edge of town, open 10:00-22:00 (Central Phuket website).

Transport. Phuket Smart Bus runs from the airport via Patong, Karon and Kata to Rawai for a flat THB 100. There is no Nai Harn stop; the nearest are Sai Yuan and Rawai Beach. From the airport the first bus is at 08:15 and the last at 23:30, every 30 minutes in the daytime, and three afternoon departures (14:00, 15:00, 16:00) continue to Promthep Cape. Buses leave Rawai Beach for the airport from 06:45 to 19:30. This is the operator’s timetable from 2026-01-16; journey times depend on traffic. We found no official songthaew routes or fares, so we do not publish them. Otherwise it is ride-hailing: see taxis in Phuket.

FAQ

Is Nai Harn part of Rawai?

Yes. Nai Harn Beach and the lakeside park are on Rawai Municipality's list of local landmarks, and DOPA statistics have no subdistrict or village called Nai Harn. That is why listings use Nai Harn and Rawai for neighbouring streets of the same subdistrict.

Can you swim at Nai Harn in October?

Rawai Municipality says the waves are very strong during the monsoon from May to October and the beach is not suitable for swimming. November is a transition month with about 16 rainy days in the Thai Meteorological Department normals. The sea is usually calmest from December to March, the driest months.

Is Nai Harn good for families?

On the plus side there is a shaded lakeside park with exercise trails, the quiet Ya Nui cove a few minutes away, and three MOE-licensed international schools in Rawai with seven more in neighbouring Chalong. On the minus side, the beach has big surf from May to October and the airport is about an hour away. Officially listed schools and hospitals are in the Living section below.

How much does a condo in Nai Harn cost?

There is no separate figure for Nai Harn: the Treasury valuation is by subdistrict, and Rawai's median is THB 51,500 per m² across 33 buildings (snapshot 2024-08-05). That is the official appraisal used for transfer fees and taxes, not a sale price. Asking prices for specific projects appear in our catalogue only from the developer's site, with a date.

How long is the drive from Phuket airport to Nai Harn?

48 km by road, 59 minutes without traffic according to OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data. Allow more at rush hour and in high season. It is one of the longest airport runs on the island.

Nai Harn or Rawai: which is better to live in?

They are neighbours in the same subdistrict, 3.3 km apart. People pick Nai Harn for a swimming beach in the dry season and the lake park, and Rawai for the pier, island boats, seafood market and a wider choice of housing. The Treasury valuation is identical because the subdistrict is the same.

Where is the nearest hospital to Nai Harn?

Rawai subdistrict, which includes Nai Harn, has no Ministry of Public Health licensed inpatient hospital (HSS list of 31 July 2026). The nearest is the state Chalong Hospital, opened on 29 January 2024: 8.1 km from the beach, about 13 minutes without traffic. The private Bangkok Hospital Phuket in town is 19.9 km away, about 26 minutes.
