Where Surin is and what the area covers

Surin (หาดสุรินทร์) is a beach and village on Phuket’s northwest coast in Thalang district. It belongs to Choeng Thale (Cherngtalay) subdistrict, together with Bang Tao and Layan. According to Choeng Thale SAO, the beach is in village 3; the subdistrict borders Kamala to the south and the Andaman Sea to the west.

DOPA counted 2,108 registered residents in Hat Surin village and 19,126 in the whole subdistrict in December 2025. The village figure is a floor: DOPA does not split the 6,905 residents of Choeng Thale municipality by village, so how many of them live in Surin is unknown. South of Surin is the small Laem Sing beach, which both the Choeng Thale and Kamala administrations list on their websites, so the boundary here is blurred for visitors.

Who Surin suits

  • People who want a park and shops on a 2 km beach. Choeng Thale SAO describes a beach backed by a 101-rai (about 16 ha) public park and more than 20 shops and souvenir stalls.
  • People who want a bus to the airport from the beach. The Phuket Smart Bus stop Surin Beach is at the shore: from the airport the ride takes about 45 minutes, the first bus passes Surin at 09:00 and the fare is THB 100. In the other direction it runs to Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata and Rawai.
  • People who want the airport 26 minutes away but not under the flight path. HKT is 22.5 km by road, and the state Thalang Hospital is 11.1 km, about 14 minutes.
  • Buyers of finished flats in completed buildings. Of the 18 Surin projects in our registry, 11 are completed and 10 appear in the Treasury register, which means unit titles have been issued. Examples are Palmyrah Surin and Chic Avenue Surin Condominium.

Who should look elsewhere

  • Anyone who needs a price below the island level. The median valuation of the ten condo buildings named after Surin is THB 59,750 per m², 24% above the island median. The cheapest is Surin Gate (35,500) and the highest The Aristo 2 Condo Surin Beach (91,600).
  • Anyone waiting for a new build in the next few years. Since 2021 only three projects got EIA approval, all in 2026: The Base Surin Phase 1 and 2 (Sansiri) and Surin Top Condominium, none yet under construction according to their reports.
  • Swimmers who want the sea every month. From May to October the airport TMD station records an onshore west wind and 260-399 mm of rain a month. Swim only near lifeguards; the sea is calm from December to March.
  • Parents who want a school within walking distance of the beach. The subdistrict’s international schools on the OPEC register (HeadStart Cherngtalay, Phuket Pinnacle, Bamboo Valley) and UWC Thailand in neighbouring Thep Krasattri are not within walking distance of the beach, so children are driven.

The Treasury appraisal is used for taxes and fees at registration; it is not a market price. Choeng Thale subdistrict is wider than Surin, so alongside the subdistrict median we show the median of buildings with “Surin” (สุรินทร์) in their name.

FAQ

Where is Surin Beach?

On Phuket's northwest coast, in village 3 of Choeng Thale subdistrict, Thalang district. Bang Tao Bay is to the north; to the south are the small Laem Sing beach and then Kamala, which already belongs to Kathu district.

How do I get from Phuket Airport to Surin?

By road it is 22.5 km, about 26 minutes without traffic (OSRM on OpenStreetMap data). The Phuket Smart Bus takes about 45 minutes to the Surin Beach stop and costs THB 100. AOT does not publish an official taxi fare to Surin.

How much does a condo cost in Surin?

Asking prices are in our catalogue with a date and developer link. For comparison, the Treasury valuation gives a median of THB 59,750 per m² across ten residential condo buildings named after Surin, THB 56,000 for Choeng Thale overall and THB 48,250 for Phuket. These are tax valuations, not sale prices.

Can foreigners buy a condo in Surin freehold?

Yes, within the 49% foreign quota of each condominium; units outside the quota are usually sold leasehold. Older Surin buildings may have their foreign quota already used, so confirm it with the condo juristic person before you pay a deposit.

Is Surin Beach safe for swimming all year?

No. From May to October TMD normals for the airport station show westerly onshore winds and 260-399 mm of rain a month, which means waves on this coast. Swim only near lifeguards and never under a red flag. The calm season runs from December to March.

Is Surin the same area as Bang Tao?

Administratively yes: both beaches are in Choeng Thale subdistrict and share the same Treasury valuation figure. In practice they are neighbours: Surin is shorter and denser, Bang Tao longer, with Laguna and most of the new projects. The beaches are about 4 km apart.
