Where Bophut is

Bophut is a beach village on Koh Samui’s north coast and a subdistrict of Ko Samui district, Surat Thani province. The subdistrict is far bigger than the village: it takes in Chaweng, Bang Rak with the Big Buddha temple, Choeng Mon cape and Samui airport. The whole island is run by one city municipality.

The subdistrict had 20,521 registered residents in December 2025, more than a quarter of the island. Nearly all of the northeast’s infrastructure is here too: six private hospitals, two international schools and 19 of Samui’s 27 condominiums on the Treasury registry.

Who Bophut suits

• Frequent flyers. The airport is 6.3 km away, about 9 minutes
• Long-stayers. All six private inpatient hospitals on the island are in the subdistrict; Bangkok Hospital Samui is 6.3 km from Bophut Beach
• People who travel to Phangan and Koh Tao. Lomprayah catamarans leave from Bang Rak pier by the airport
• Buyers looking for a registry-listed condo. 19 condominiums with unit titles, more than all other subdistricts on the island combined
• Evening walkers. Fisherman’s Village, the walking street in the old village along the beach

Who should look elsewhere

• Visitors in October to December. Samui’s rainy season: 295, 445 and 263 mm (TMD, 1991-2020 normals)
• People arriving by car from the mainland. Raja Ferry docks at Lipa Noi on the west coast, about 31 km from Bophut via Maenam and Nathon
• Anyone who needs the public hospital nearby. Koh Samui Hospital near Nathon is 20.3 km away
• People who want to live away from the runway. The airport is in the same subdistrict, east of the village

Property in Bophut and valuations

Bophut subdistrict has 19 residential condominiums with issued unit titles, out of 27 on the whole island. They include five Replay buildings (45,100 THB/m² each), The Bay, Residence Gold and Silver, Arisara Place, Samui Emerald, Oceana Residence and Bang Rak Garden Home. The highest valuation is The Brew Condo Samui (75,550 THB/m²), the lowest The Master Peak (33,200).

The valuation is used for taxes and fees when a sale is registered; it is not a sale price. Method: all residential units, the median per floor, then per building, then across the subdistrict. New buildings without unit titles are not on the registry yet. Bophut projects on sale are listed in our catalogue. Living in Bophut: hospitals, schools, shops, transport

Hospitals. Every licensed private inpatient hospital on Samui is in Bophut subdistrict (HSS as of 31 July 2026):

From Bophut Beach it is 6.3 km to Bangkok Hospital Samui and 20.3 km to the public Koh Samui Hospital (OSRM).

Schools. The OPEC register lists two international schools in the subdistrict: นานาชาติ สมุย (Samui International, 141/21 Moo 6) and นานาชาติพีบิสส์ (PBISS, 6/5 Moo 3).

Shops. OpenStreetMap shows 9 places within 2.5 km of Bophut Beach as of 17 October 2026: Big C, Makro, Lotus’s go fresh, The Wharf shopping centre and Bophut Food Market. Addresses were checked against the map only.

Transport. The airport is 6.3 km away. Lomprayah catamarans run to Phangan and Koh Tao from Bang Rak pier. The Raja car ferry to the mainland and to Phangan leaves from Lipa Noi in the west. We found no official songthaew routes and do not publish any.
