Where Layan is and what the area covers

Layan (ลายัน) is the northern end of Bang Tao Bay on Phuket’s northwest coast. It sits in Choeng Thale (Cherngtalay) subdistrict, Thalang district, together with Bang Tao and Surin. Choeng Thale SAO places the beach in village 6, Ban Layan, reached via Layan Soi 4. In the DOPA register, village 6 of the subdistrict appears as Khok Tanot (โคกโตนด), with 1,132 registered residents in December 2025.

Layan Beach is part of Sirinat National Park and is watched over by the park’s Hat Layan ranger post. Its landmark is the islet of Koh Tha (เกาะกะทะ); DNP notes that the sand of Bang Tao continues here and is building a spit out to the island.

Who Layan suits

  • People who want a quiet beach inside a national park. DNP describes the beach as very quiet, nearly untouched, with fine white sand. Park staff can provide tents. Park entry for foreigners is THB 200 for adults and THB 100 for children.
  • People who want quiet no more than 18 minutes from the airport. The airport is 14.2 km away without traffic. Among beach areas only Nai Yang and Mai Khao are closer.
  • Buyers ready to wait for handover until Q4 2028. Layan Verde (774 apartments) is planned to be built through the end of 2028, while Layan Green Park Phase 1 is already finished: from THB 5 million on 17 October 2026, 700 m to the beach by the developer. In the ONEP export, six projects with Layan (ลายัน) in their name have received EIA approval since 2021: Layan Green Park Phase 2 in 2022 and five in 2024 (the Layan Green Park Phase 2 extension and four phases of Layan Verde).
  • People who want Laguna’s restaurants 6 km away but not on the doorstep. The shops and restaurants around Laguna and Srisoonthorn Road are about 6 km away in a straight line.

Who should look elsewhere

  • Anyone counting on a bus. The Smart Bus does not serve the beach; the nearest stop, Cherngtalay School, is about 5 km away in a straight line. We found no official songthaew route.
  • Anyone who needs supermarkets near home. The subdistrict’s large supermarkets (Villa Market, Tops, Lotus’s) are on the main road near Laguna, about 6 km from the beach in a straight line. Near the beach there are mostly small shops.
  • Anyone bothered by building noise. Five projects were approved in 2024, and Layan Verde is planned to be built through the end of 2028.
  • Visitors who want to swim from May to October. In those months the beach faces onshore westerly winds, and TMD normals show 260-399 mm of rain a month. The sea is calm from December to March.
