Some Phuket tours take babies and others refuse them, and the rule changes with the operator and the boat. We found no island-wide minimum age. Below is what Tisland, Trazy, Love Andaman, Simba Sea Trips, Thai Holiday Guide and Phuket Tour publish for children under 4, checked on 6 November 2026, with the gaps marked. Phuket Tour is the operator our site works with, so read its terms as one operator’s terms, not as a market rule. This page is a decision for the youngest children. For ages 3 to 12, heat and rainy days see Phuket excursions with kids, and for beaches, parks and where to stay see Phuket with kids. It is not medical advice: ask your paediatrician about sun, seasickness and travel for your child.
From what age do Phuket operators take babies
| Operator and tour | Lowest age they take | Price for young children | What the page does not say |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tisland: Phi Phi and Coral and Racha catamarans, Krabi 4 Islands from Ao Nang; FAQ for speedboat sea tours | Children under 1 are not allowed | Free up to age 3 with no seat in the minivan; child ticket 4-11 | Jacket sizes for small children |
| Trazy: Krabi 4 Islands from Phuket | Not suitable under 2 | Under 3 free and sharing a parent’s seat in the vehicle | Jacket sizes for small children |
| Love Andaman: Phi Phi and Bamboo, Similan Islands by speedboat | Both trips are marked not suitable for infants, no age given | Toddler is 1-3, child 4-11 (not over 120 cm); the free place for toddlers is stated only for diving trips | What counts as an infant, and the price for a toddler on a snorkelling day |
| Phuket Tour: speedboat, catamaran and big boat cards | No minimum age on the cards we read | Child fare from 4 (Phi Phi speedboat THB 2,100 against 2,600 for an adult); nothing below 4 | Whether babies are taken, and what they pay |
| Simba Sea Trips | No minimum age in its terms; children and infants may join adult family members (the terms count up to 19 passengers with 18 adults) | Not stated; insurance covers ages 3 months to 75 years | Price for infants |
| Thai Holiday Guide: Khai Islands, Krabi 4 Islands | No minimum age on the listings; infants sit on an adult’s lap | Not stated | Child price bands |
Three things behind the table:
- A child fare is a price band, not permission. Phuket Tour’s cards start the child fare at 4 and say nothing about children below it
- The words ‘tours with children’ are not an age check. Phuket Tour’s category page of that name lists Similan Islands by speedboat, Bangkok in one day and a two-day Singapore trip on its first page, and states no minimum ages
- Give the real age when you book. Phuket Tour’s FAQ says to state the child’s age in advance so that conditions or restrictions can be applied. Simba’s terms make its insurance void if the correct age of any guest is not given at booking
What changes between speedboat, catamaran, big boat and land tours
For a baby the differences that matter are hours on the move, room to stand up and how bumpy the sea is. Prices and wave tables for the three boat types are in speedboat, catamaran or big boat. This table looks only at babies.
| Format | Time and room | What operators say about babies | Our view |
|---|---|---|---|
| Half-day speedboat to Coral Island or the Khai Islands | 15-20 minutes at sea to Coral (Simba Sea Trips); about 20 minutes to Khai and 4-5 hours in total (Thai Holiday Guide); Phuket Tour’s Coral day runs from a 07:30 pickup to 14:00 at the pier | No minimum age on Phuket Tour, Simba or Thai Holiday Guide pages; infants sit on an adult’s lap at Khai; Simba keeps Coral groups to 12 and has jackets for anyone who wants one | The shortest sea day we found. Still ask about age, jacket size and shade |
| Full-day speedboat to Phi Phi or the Similan Islands | Phuket Tour’s Phi Phi card: boat at 09:00, islands at 10:15, back at the pier at 16:30. Love Andaman’s Similan speedboat takes about 1 hour 15 minutes to the first island | Tisland’s FAQ: no children under 1 on speedboat sea tours. Love Andaman marks both trips not suitable for infants | Skip under 3: a full day, a bumpy ride in 1-2 m waves (Tisland) |
| Two-deck catamaran | Tisland’s Phi Phi day: pickup 05:15-05:30, boat 06:30, Phi Phi 07:45, pier 16:00, hotel about 16:30; 40-55 guests, panoramic windows, open upper deck. Phuket Tour’s late-departure speed catamaran has two floors where you can stand and walk | Tisland: no children under 1. Phuket Tour’s cards: nothing on infants. Tisland’s description does not mention a toilet, shade or air conditioning | More room to move than a speedboat, the same long day |
| Big boat, James Bond Islands and Phang Nga Bay | Phuket Tour: 35-40 minutes to the islands against 20 by speedboat; you can sit, stand, walk the deck and go up to the second floor | Child fare 4-11. The card says it suits pregnant women and does not mention infants | The easiest boat to move around on, but still 8-10 hours with transfers, per our James Bond Island page |
| Ferry plus speedboat, Krabi 4 Islands from Phuket | 9 hours; ferry about 90 minutes each way, then about 15 minutes by speedboat (Thai Holiday Guide) | Trazy: not suitable under 2. Tisland: no children under 1 on its Ao Nang version. Infants sit on an adult’s lap at Thai Holiday Guide | Skip under 3 |
| Land: elephant sanctuary | Phuket Elephant Sanctuary half-day programmes run 09:30-13:00 and 13:30-17:00 | FAQ: ‘Yes absolutely, we cater for all ages’; electric carts with drivers for families with young children, a nursery and large umbrellas | The best fit for under 3 on this list. Riding and shows are a separate question, see our elephants guide |
Other land options are the Phuket Aquarium, mostly indoors, where reports differ on child tickets, and Old Town; see the rainy day plan. Road days to Khao Sok and Krabi are about 6 hours in a vehicle, per our excursions hub.
Do babies need a life jacket on a Phuket boat tour
TAT’s action plan of 17 July 2018, issued after the Phuket boat incidents, says all passengers and crew must wear life jackets at all times on the boat. Operators say they supply them: Love Andaman shows a jacket on every seat, Tisland and Trazy list jackets as included, Simba’s terms oblige guests to wear the one provided, and its Coral Island page says jackets are available to anyone who wants one. Phuket Tour’s Phi Phi, Coral Island and big boat cards do not mention jackets.
What no page says is whether a jacket exists for a baby or toddler. None gives a size range, a weight limit or a rule on bringing your own, and we found no Thai rule on child sizes. For scale, the US Coast Guard puts infant jackets at 33 lb (about 15 kg) or less, warns that adult-sized jackets may not work for children, and says the label shows the weight and chest size and a fitted foam jacket sits snug and does not ride above the chin or ears. That is the US system, not a Thai standard.
Our view: a parent’s lap is not a life jacket. If the crew cannot show you a jacket that fits your child’s weight, we would not board. Ask for the weight range in writing, and whether you may bring your own.
Seasickness with a baby or a toddler
The CDC Yellow Book (page dated 23 April 2025) says children under 2 do not usually get motion sickness and that susceptibility peaks between 7 and 12 years. For children it puts behaviour first and medicine second: it advises caution with anti-motion-sickness medication, gives its doses for ages 6-12, and says scopolamine, including patches, should be avoided in children because of hallucinations and confusion. We give no doses and no product names.
The sea decides more than age does. Tisland’s guide to reading the TMD forecast (dated 19 August, year not shown) says:
- About 1 m. Seasickness is rare and every boat runs
- 1-2 m. People prone to motion sickness start to struggle and a light speedboat is bumpy. For families with small children a sheltered bay is the better choice on such a day
- 2-3 m. Speedboats to far islands are the first to be cancelled
Where you sit matters too. The CDC advises avoiding the bow of a ship, and Love Andaman advises sitting towards the middle of the boat, where the motion is least noticeable. In practice that means a short crossing in the morning of a calm month: our Coral Island page suggests December to April. When the sea is rough, see what happens when a tour is cancelled for weather.
Park fees and tickets for children under 3
The DNP regulation of 2021 (Royal Gazette, 9 December 2021) defines a child as a person aged 3 to 14 full years or no taller than 140 cm (clause 3) and exempts children under three from the entry fee (clause 16). The fee table below is the DNP’s rate sheet, revision of 2 June 2023, foreign visitors:
| Park and tour | Adult, THB | Child 3-14 or up to 140 cm, THB | Under 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Similan Islands | 500 | 250 | free |
| Surin Islands | 500 | 250 | free |
| Phi Phi Don, Phi Phi Leh and Bamboo Island | 400 | 200 | free |
| Krabi 4 Islands area (Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi, general rate) | 200 | 100 | free |
| Ao Phang Nga (Phang Nga Bay, James Bond Island) | 300 | 150 | free |
| Khao Sok | 200 | 100 | free |
Coral Island, the Khai Islands and the Racha Islands do not appear in the DNP table, so no park fee applies there. The tour price may still cover other things, so ask what is included. Thai Holiday Guide’s Khai listing mentions a small beach maintenance fee paid in cash at the island.
Operators handle the fee differently. Phuket Tour and Tisland list national park tickets as included. Trazy says the Krabi park fee is not included and is paid in cash on site, and its list shows children under 3 free and ages 3-11 at THB 100. A child who has just turned 3 falls between the rules: Tisland’s place is free up to age 3 and Trazy’s under 3, while the DNP counts the child rate from the third birthday. Ask who pays the park fee for a 3-year-old.
Tisland (children up to 3) and Trazy (under 3) say the free child has no seat of their own in the vehicle. In a private car a child under 6 must ride in a car seat under Thai law since 17 August 2023, and taxis and public transport are exempt, per our Thailand with kids guide. We found no operator page that says what applies in a tour minivan, so ask for a transfer with a child seat.
What to bring on a tour with a baby or a toddler
- A life jacket that fits. Ask the operator first, see above
- Sun cover. The NHS says children under 6 months should be kept out of direct strong sunlight and advises shade from 11am to 3pm. The American Academy of Pediatrics goes further for babies under 6 months: out of direct and indirect sunlight entirely, because of the risk of heat stroke. Tisland’s list for its Phi Phi catamaran is SPF 50+, sunglasses, a hat, a long-sleeved shirt or pareo, beach shoes and dry clothes
- A child-size snorkel mask if you want one. Tisland provides masks for adults and asks you to bring children’s masks if needed
- A swim diaper if the child is in diapers. Splash Jungle requires one
- Milk, formula or snacks, and water. We found no operator page that says what can be heated or stored on board
- Small cash. For the beach maintenance fee on the Khai Islands, or the Krabi park fee with Trazy
Which tours to skip with a child under 3
- Full-day Phi Phi by speedboat or early catamaran. Tisland refuses under 1 and Love Andaman marks infants unsuitable. Tisland’s catamaran day starts with a pickup at 05:15-05:30 and ends about 16:30. See Phi Phi
- The Similan Islands. About 1 hour 15 minutes to the first island by speedboat at Love Andaman, and open only from 15 October to 15 May, per our Similan Islands page
- Krabi 4 Islands from Phuket. 9 hours with about 90 minutes of ferry each way. Trazy refuses under 2, Tisland under 1. See Krabi 4 Islands
- Racha and Coral by catamaran. Tisland lists it at 11 hours from a 07:45 meeting. See Racha Islands
- Road days to Khao Sok and Krabi. About 6 hours in a vehicle. See Khao Sok
- ATV and zipline. Our ATV and zipline pages, checked on 18 October 2026, record passengers on ATVs from 4 and both zipline parks from 4. Our rafting page notes that Phuket Tour publishes no minimum age
- Late evening shows. Siam Niramit runs 20:30-21:50, per our Phuket with kids page. See evening shows compared
- Elephant riding and shows, tiger contact. The welfare questions are in our elephants guide and on the Tiger Kingdom page
What we would book by age
This is our reading of the operator terms above, not a rule.
| Child | Sea | Land and beach |
|---|---|---|
| Under 1 | Tisland refuses, Love Andaman marks infants unsuitable, the other pages are silent. We would not book a boat day | An elephant sanctuary (any age per its FAQ), the aquarium, a beach near the hotel |
| 1-2 | Trazy refuses under 2 on Krabi 4 Islands. A morning at Coral Island or the Khai Islands from December to April, only if the operator confirms your child’s age and a fitting jacket in writing | The same land options |
| 3 | Free place at Tisland and Trazy, child park rate from the third birthday. Half days still fit better than 8-11 hour days | The same, plus the water-park kids’ zone, see Splash Jungle |
What to ask before you pay
- What is the minimum age for this exact boat and day, and can you put it in a message?
- What does a child of my child’s age pay, and is a seat included?
- Do you have a life jacket for a child of this weight, and may I bring my own?
- How long are we on the water each way, and can I stand and walk with a baby on this boat?
- Is there shade, a toilet and somewhere to change a diaper?
- What happens if the sea is 1-2 m: is there a sheltered bay as plan B?
- Who pays the national park fee for a child who has just turned 3?
- Does the transfer have a child seat, or does the baby sit on a lap?
- Can milk or food be heated on board?
- Which insurer covers the tour, and does it cover my child’s age?
What we did not find
- A Phuket-wide or Marine Department minimum age for children on tour boats
- Infant or toddler life jacket sizes on any operator page we read
- Phuket Tour’s price and rules for children under 4: its cards start at 4
- Whether Love Andaman’s free place for toddlers applies outside diving trips
- Toilet, shade and air-conditioning details for most boats: Tisland’s catamaran description lists panoramic windows, seating and an open upper deck and nothing more
- Any dosing advice for young children: we give none
For tour prices see how much Phuket tours cost, and for the whole list of day trips see Phuket excursions.
FAQ
Can a baby go on a Phuket island tour?
It depends on the operator and the age. Tisland takes no child under 1 on its sea tours, Trazy calls its Krabi 4 Islands tour unsuitable under 2, and Love Andaman marks its speedboat trips not suitable for infants without naming an age. Phuket Tour, Simba Sea Trips and Thai Holiday Guide publish no minimum age on the pages we read, so get the answer for your exact tour in writing.
Do babies pay on Phuket boat tours?
Tisland sells children up to age 3 a free place with no seat in the minivan, and Trazy lists children under 3 as free and sharing a parent's seat. Love Andaman counts toddlers as 1-3 but states the free place only for diving trips. Phuket Tour starts its child fare at 4 and publishes no price below that, so ask.
Do children under 3 pay the national park fee in Thailand?
No. The DNP regulation of 2021 exempts children under three from the entry fee and sets the child rate for ages 3 to 14 or a height up to 140 cm. At Phi Phi Don, Phi Phi Leh and Bamboo Island the child rate is THB 200 against THB 400 for a foreign adult. Coral Island, the Khai Islands and Racha are not in the DNP table.
Do Phuket tour boats have life jackets for babies?
Operators say they supply life jackets: Love Andaman shows one on every seat, and Tisland and Trazy list them as included. No page we read states infant or toddler sizes or a weight range. The US Coast Guard puts infant jackets at 33 lb (about 15 kg) or less and warns that adult sizes may not work for children, so ask for the size range before you pay.
Is Coral Island suitable for a baby or toddler?
It is the shortest sea trip from Phuket: 15-20 minutes by speedboat per Simba Sea Trips, which calls the island family-friendly. Neither Simba nor Phuket Tour states a minimum age, so confirm your child's age, a fitting jacket and shade before booking. Our Coral Island page suggests mornings between December and April.
Does a baby get seasick on a boat?
The CDC says children under 2 do not usually get motion sickness, and that susceptibility peaks between 7 and 12 years. Waves still matter: Tisland says that at 1-2 m a light speedboat is bumpy and families with small children are better off in a sheltered bay. Ask your paediatrician about medicines, because the CDC advises caution and says scopolamine should be avoided in children.
Which Phuket tours should I avoid with a child under 3?
The full days: Phi Phi by speedboat or early catamaran, the Similan Islands, Krabi 4 Islands by ferry, and Khao Sok or Krabi by road. They run 8-11 hours, and the operators above exclude infants from several of them. Half days to Coral Island or the Khai Islands, an elephant sanctuary and a beach day fit better.
