A cancelled sea tour comes down to three questions: who calls it off, what you get back, and how early you had to act. The answers sit in each operator’s terms, and many operators publish less than you would hope. Below is what Phuket Tour, Tisland and four evening shows publish, checked on 3 November 2026, with the gaps marked. Phuket Tour is the operator our site works with, so read its terms as one operator’s terms, not as a market rule.

Who decides whether the boat goes out

WhoWhat they do
Thai Meteorological Department (TMD)Issues warnings and wave forecasts for the Andaman Sea and does not run your tour. Advisory No. 4 of 3 November 2026: waves more than 2 m high in thundershowers, and all ships should keep off thundershowers
Thai marine authoritiesBan sea departures when a strong storm is forecast, according to Phuket Tour’s FAQ. We found no published order from the Phuket Marine Office for the days around 3 November 2026
Captain and operatorMake the call on the day. TAT wrote in 2018 that the captain generally decides on weather cancellations, and Tisland’s guide says the final decision is the captain’s and the operator’s, even without a formal ban

A TMD warning does not close the sea by itself, and its wording changes between advisories. On 21 May 2026 TMD advised small boats in the upper Andaman Sea to keep ashore, while the advisory of 3 November speaks only of ships and thundershowers. The operator decides what to do with it. A bad forecast is also not always a cancellation: Phuket Tour’s FAQ says tours are cancelled quite rarely and rain on its own is not a reason.

Park closures are a calendar matter, not a weather call. The Similan and Surin islands are closed for part of the year, so no operator should sell you a day there in that window. The dates are on our Similan Islands page.

Sea tours: what Phuket Tour and Tisland publish

OperatorIf the sea is closed or the weather turnsIf you cancel
Phuket TourThe tour moves to another date and the money is returned if the new time is inconvenient (FAQ, our translation). The payment page names a storm as an unforeseen circumstance with a refund without restrictionsRefund only if you cancel at least one day before the tour. Full terms are in a contract that the site does not publish
TislandNo weather or sea-ban rule on its cancel and refund page. Its guide says a reputable operator usually reschedules or refunds and advises confirming that when you bookOne-day group tours: full refund 24 hours ahead or more, nothing within 24 hours, free date change 24 hours ahead or more. The Similan Islands follow the same 24 hours

Both operators’ pages were opened on 3 November 2026. Tisland’s cancel and refund page carries no date. Tisland’s July 2026 guide adds that a good operator warns you of a cancellation in advance rather than on the day and that you should confirm the status with your operator the day before.

Evening shows: what the venues say

ShowIf the weather turnsIf you cancel
Siam NiramitThe FAQ says it goes ahead rain or shine, and the theatre and dining hall are indoorsUnredeemed tickets can be changed or cancelled and refunded if you cancel before 3 pm on the show date
Carnival MagicNo weather clause on its ticket or FAQ pagesTicket information says tickets are non-refundable and non-changeable, while the FAQ says a prepaid reservation may be refunded if cancelled at least 24 hours ahead. The two pages conflict, so ask
Phuket FantaSeaNo weather clause on its information, FAQ or rules pagesIssued tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and non-changeable. Payment is due 7 days before the visit and is not refundable
Simon CabaretNo weather clause. The terms disclaim events beyond the theatre’s control, such as force majeureAll purchases are final and no refunds are given

Prices, days and children’s rules for the same four shows are in Phuket evening shows compared.

If the operator cancels and if you cancel

  • The authorities ban sea departures, or the operator calls the tour off. Phuket Tour offers a new date, or a refund if the new time does not suit you. Tisland’s page has no rule for this, so ask before paying
  • The sea is open but you do not want to go. At Phuket Tour you get a refund only if you cancel at least one day before the tour. A storm is refunded without restrictions, but the page does not say whether a forecast alone counts, so ask how they define it
  • You are ill. Phuket Tour refunds without restrictions with confirmation from a medical institution. Tisland refunds in full against a certificate from a Phuket hospital delivered by 3 pm on the day of the excursion, with exceptions listed on its page, including the Similan Islands
  • You do not turn up. None of the operators we read publishes a no-show rule for sea tours. Carnival Magic’s FAQ says late arrivals get no refund, full or partial. Assume a no-show is not refunded

Insurance

Phuket Tour says insurance is included in the price and that a Thai operator’s insurance covers every excursion. Its pages do not publish the policy, so ask for the insurer’s name and what it pays for. We have not reviewed any travel insurer’s wording: whether your own policy covers a tour cancelled for weather depends on its text.

Red flags on the beach

A red flag means stay out of the water. TAT’s 2018 guidance lists red as no swimming, yellow as medium risk and green as calm. How rip currents work and how to get out of one is in our guide to the red flag on a Phuket beach. We found no operator rule that treats a red flag at a snorkel stop as a reason for a refund, so ask the captain what changes on the route. For the October 2026 floods and the rain that followed, see Phuket flooding.

What to ask before you pay

  • Who decides to cancel for weather: a TMD warning, an authority ban or the captain?
  • If the tour is cancelled, do I get a new date or a refund, and can I refuse the new date and take the money?
  • How many days until the money is back, and to which card?
  • Until what time the day before can I cancel myself, and does a bad forecast with an open sea count?
  • How and when will you tell me about a cancellation: the evening before or at the pier?
  • Are park fees, transfer and lunch refunded too?
  • What happens if I am ill or late?
  • Is there a plan B in a sheltered bay, and does the price stay the same?
  • Is all of this in the voucher, the contract or a chat message I can keep?
  • Which insurer covers the excursion, and what does the policy pay for?

If your tour is cancelled

  1. Ask the operator to confirm the cancellation in a message and name the reason: a TMD warning, an authority ban or the captain’s decision
  2. Choose between a new date and a refund. Phuket Tour’s FAQ offers both for a sea ban, so confirm the same applies to your reason
  3. Check a new date against your flights and your non-refundable bookings, such as evening shows
  4. Keep the voucher and the chat until the money arrives: we found no refund deadline on the operators’ pages

What we did not find

  • The text of Phuket Tour’s contract: the payment page refers to it, but we found no public copy
  • A no-show rule and a refund deadline on the pages of Phuket Tour and Tisland
  • A weather clause on Tisland’s cancel and refund page
  • A published order from the Phuket Marine Office or the provincial administration for the days around 3 November 2026: such notices can appear on the offices’ social media, which we did not check
  • Public weather terms from other large operators: our search found none for Love Andaman

For prices of the tours themselves see how much Phuket tours cost, and for the whole list of day trips see Phuket excursions.

FAQ

Who decides if a Phuket boat tour is cancelled because of weather?

The Thai Meteorological Department issues the warnings and wave forecasts, and according to Phuket Tour's FAQ the authorities ban sea departures when a strong storm is forecast. In practice the captain and the operator decide on the day: TAT wrote in 2018 that the captain generally makes that call, and Tisland's guide says the final decision is theirs even without a formal ban. We found no published order from the Phuket Marine Office for the days around 3 November 2026.

Do I get a refund if my Phuket tour is cancelled because of weather?

Phuket Tour's FAQ says that when the authorities ban sea departures the tour is moved to another date, and if the new time is inconvenient the money is returned. Tisland's cancel and refund page has no weather rule, so ask before paying. For evening shows the rules differ by venue: Siam Niramit refunds until 3 pm on the show date, while Carnival Magic, FantaSea and Simon Cabaret call their tickets non-refundable.

Is rain a reason to cancel a Phuket tour?

Not on its own. Phuket Tour's FAQ says tours are cancelled quite rarely and rain is not a reason: tours run while the weather stays stable. A sea ban or a strong storm is the trigger. Siam Niramit says its show goes ahead rain or shine.

How late can I cancel a Phuket tour and still get my money back?

Phuket Tour: at least one day before the tour starts. Tisland: 24 hours ahead for one-day group tours on its help page, 48 hours on its tour cards, and until 12:00 on the day for evening shows. Siam Niramit: before 3 pm on the show date. Carnival Magic, FantaSea and Simon Cabaret call tickets non-refundable, although Carnival Magic's FAQ mentions 24 hours for prepaid reservations, so ask.

Does the tour price include insurance?

Phuket Tour says insurance is included in the price and that a Thai operator's insurance covers every excursion. It does not publish the policy terms, so ask for the insurer's name and what it pays for. We did not review any travel insurance policy.
