June is the second month of the southwest monsoon. TMD describes it as rainy in the first half and often patchy in the second. Below are Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) normals for nine stations, what June 2026 looked like, sea safety, national park closures and the 2027 holiday. Checked on 25 October 2026.
June weather by region: TMD normals
These are 1991-2020 normals from the TMD report; the Krabi station (48 563) has a shorter 1994-2020 record. A rainy day means 0.1 mm or more. Khao Lak uses the nearest TMD station, Takua Pa (individual beaches may differ), Pattaya the Phatthaya station, Koh Chang the Trad station on the mainland. TMD has no stations on Koh Phangan or Koh Tao, so the Ko Samui station is the nearest reference for them.
| Region, TMD station | High, °C | Low, °C | Rain, mm | Rainy days | Hotel occupancy Jun 2025, % |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phuket (Phuket) | 32.6 | 25.8 | 249.4 | 18.6 | 66.79 |
| Khao Lak (nearest station Takua Pa) | 31.9 | 24.6 | 456.6 | 21.1 | 69.48 (Phang Nga) |
| Krabi (Krabi, 1994-2020) | 31.9 | 23.1 | 224.8 | 17.5 | 65.70 |
| Koh Samui (Ko Samui) | 32.7 | 25.3 | 133.6 | 13.1 | 77.90 (Surat Thani) |
| Pattaya (Phatthaya) | 32.0 | 26.4 | 132.1 | 12.6 | 71.15 (Chon Buri) |
| Hua Hin (Hua Hin) | 33.4 | 26.1 | 82.4 | 13.4 | 72.79 (Prachuap Khiri Khan) |
| Bangkok (Bangkok Metropolis) | 34.1 | 26.4 | 198.5 | 16.4 | 69.67 |
| Chiang Mai (Chiang Mai) | 33.2 | 24.5 | 118.2 | 16.3 | 65.31 |
| Koh Chang (nearest station Trad, mainland) | 31.5 | 24.3 | 777.2 | 25.4 | 55.39 (Trat) |
Hotel occupancy from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MOTS) is by province, not by resort. A normal is a 30-year average, and any single year can be much drier or wetter.
How June behaves: TMD’s description and June 2026
TMD’s 3-month outlook issued on 22 May 2026 describes June from the 30-year pattern: abundant rain in the first half from the southwest monsoon and a trough over central Thailand, then less rain, with a dry spell of one to two weeks possible, especially in the upper part of the country. Some tropical cyclones from the Pacific or the South China Sea may pass near the east of Thailand.
June 2026 followed that script only in part:
- rain across Thailand about 8% below normal, with the north 12%, the centre 11% and the east 25% below
- the western coast of the south 43% above normal (142.9 mm more) and the Gulf coast of the south 4% above
- a moderate to rather active southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand for the whole month
- average temperature 0.4 °C above normal

Sea and swimming in June
TMD’s June summary says a moderate to rather active southwest monsoon covered the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand throughout June 2026. Rawai municipality’s page on Nai Harn, which also mentions the neighbouring Ao Sane bay, says that in the monsoon season from May to October the waves are very strong and not suitable for swimming, and Karon municipality describes the waves at Karon Beach as fairly strong. TAT explains the beach flags: red means do not swim, yellow means swimming is allowed but the risk is medium, green means calm conditions, and a red-yellow flag marks the area where lifeguards are on duty. TAT also says island-hopping and boat trips still run in the monsoon season but can be delayed or cancelled at the last minute, which is the captain’s decision.
We have no official wave heights for June. What to do if a current pulls you out is in red flags and rip currents, and calmer spots on Phuket are in Phuket beaches without waves.

The month before is Thailand in May, the month after is Thailand in July, and beaches by season are in Thailand beaches by month.
FAQ
Is June a good time to visit Thailand?
It suits beach stays on the Gulf side and city trips with an umbrella. TMD normals give Hua Hin 82 mm, Pattaya 132 mm and Samui 134 mm, against 249 mm on Phuket and 457 mm at Takua Pa. It is a poor month for the Similan and Surin Islands, which are closed.
How much does it rain in Thailand in June?
By TMD normals from 82.4 mm at Hua Hin to 456.6 mm at Takua Pa, with Bangkok at 198.5 mm, Chiang Mai at 118.2 mm and the Trad station near Koh Chang at 777.2 mm. The number of rainy days runs from 12.6 at Pattaya to 25.4 at Trad.
Where is the best place to go in Thailand in June?
By the numbers, the Gulf side: Hua Hin has the least rain of the nine stations (82.4 mm) and Pattaya the fewest rainy days (12.6). Surat Thani province, which includes Samui, was the fullest of the nine provinces in our table in June 2025 at 77.9% occupancy, so book ahead there.
Is Phuket worth visiting in June?
If you accept waves and showers. Phuket gets 249.4 mm on 18.6 days, west-coast beaches have strong surf, and the Similan Islands are closed. Hotel occupancy in the province was 66.8% in June 2025, against 86.4% in January, its second-lowest month of 2025.
Does it rain all day in Thailand in June?
Usually not. TAT describes the monsoon rain as typically lasting 1-2 hours in the afternoon or early evening, though sometimes it is prolonged. A TMD rainy day starts at 0.1 mm, so 18.6 rainy days at Phuket does not mean 18.6 grey days.
Which national parks are closed in June?
