Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK, sometimes written Don Muang) are separate Bangkok airports. Check the three-letter code on every booking. Arriving at BKK and leaving from DMK means a landside journey and the check-in process required by your next airline.

Airport information comes from AOT’s BKK transport guide and AOT’s DMK information, checked on 21 October 2026. The baggage and accommodation choices are editorial advice.

Leaving Suvarnabhumi

Airport Rail Link. Follow signs to B1 of the main terminal. AOT lists operating hours of 05:30-midnight. Choose a station using your accommodation address and the map at the ticket counter. An onward urban rail journey may require a walk and a separate fare.

Metered taxi. The official queue is on Level 1 between Gates 4 and 7. Obtain a queue ticket and keep it until the journey ends. AOT lists metered charging plus a 50-baht airport surcharge. That surcharge is not the entire fare. Regulated baggage charges may also apply; establish how toll roads and other extras will be paid before setting off.

Grab. BKK’s transport guide places the pickup at Level 1, Gate 4, outer curb. Compare this with the current pickup instructions in the app. If the driver proposes another meeting point, check that you are following the airport’s pickup arrangement.

There is no useful universal taxi price for “the city centre”: your exact address, vehicle and route matter. Compare the app’s total with an official-counter quote and ask which extras are included.

Leaving Don Mueang

The Red Line connects Don Mueang with Krung Thep Aphiwat. The SRTET fare matrix lists a standard adult single fare of 33 baht for that pair of stations on the date checked. This does not include an onward MRT or BTS ticket. Temporary promotions or particular payment products can have different conditions.

AOT also lists these airport buses:

BusDestinationFare listed by AOT, checked 21 October 2026
A1Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal30 baht
A2Victory Monument30 baht
A3Lumphini Park50 baht
A4Sanam Luang50 baht

Mo Chit 2 coach terminal and the urban rail station are different places. Show your desired stop on a map before boarding. Use the airport’s current signs for the boarding door and last departure: individual AOT pages have inconsistent stop descriptions, so this guide does not promise one door for every terminal.

The free BKK-DMK shuttle

AOT lists a service every 30 minutes between 05:00 and midnight. At BKK, boarding is at Level 2, Gate 3, inner curb. Show a passport or national ID and a ticket or confirmation for your onward flight. The service is for passengers changing airports, not general transport into Bangkok.

At DMK, AOT lists Terminal 1 international arrivals, Level 1, Gate 6. Follow Airport Shuttle Bus signs. The internal DMK circulator is a different service and does not take you to BKK.

Road time varies with traffic; a 30-minute departure interval does not mean a 30-minute transfer. Allow for disembarking, immigration on an international arrival, collecting bags, waiting for the bus, the road journey and your next airline’s check-in deadline. The airport guidance reviewed here does not specify one universally safe connection time for two separate tickets.

Late arrivals and separate bookings

Trains and buses stop operating overnight. If your flight is delayed, check that you can still catch the last service before buying a rail ticket. For a late road journey, compare the official taxi queue with the app. With separate tickets, establish what happens if the first flight is late before treating the connection as protected.

Continue with the Bangkok sightseeing route, travel to Pattaya or travel to Chiang Mai. The separate guides cover entry requirements and buying a SIM on arrival.

FAQ

Can I use the free BKK-DMK shuttle without an onward ticket?

AOT restricts the free shuttle to passengers connecting between the airports. Bring a ticket or onward-flight confirmation and ID; choose another service for a general journey.

Is there one direct train between BKK and DMK?

The airport guides list separate railways: the Airport Rail Link at BKK and the Red Line at DMK. The free inter-airport shuttle travels by road; a journey through the urban rail network needs its own connections.

Does the 33-baht Don Mueang fare include the metro to my hotel?

No. This is the published standard adult Red Line single fare to Krung Thep Aphiwat. Onward MRT, BTS or taxi travel and any special fare programmes are separate.
