What you will see at Simon Cabaret

Simon Cabaret Phuket is a 600-seat cabaret theatre in the south of Patong, on Sirirat Road (spelled Sirirach on the theatre’s site). The show has run since 1991, according to the official website. The site calls it a “ladyboy show”: the troupe on stage is transgender. The programme is built on musical themes from different countries, comedy and elaborate costumes.

According to the operator Tourist Information Phuket the show runs roughly like this: it opens with Thai classical dance with finger extensions and headdresses, then international numbers (Chinese opera, Japanese geisha, Broadway hits, pop), comedy sketches in between, in mime or with simple jokes, and a full-company finale.

After the show the performers come out to the foyer and pose for photos with guests. The theatre’s website promises a chance to meet the show’s stars for photos. According to the operator, a tip for the performer is customary for a photo, around 20-50 baht. A sign at the entrance in a 2019 photo read “minimum 100 THB for each performer”: confirm the amount on the spot.

To the south beyond Patong lie Karon and Kata (8.5 km to Kata). The theatre’s sales office answers the phone Monday to Friday, 9:00-19:00, according to the website.
