Choose a base and a pace first

This plan covers seven calendar days, including arrival and departure. If both flights take up a whole day, do not squeeze every outing into the days between them. Start with one boat trip and one town day; leave the rest for a slower stay.

Choose accommodation near the beach where you want to spend your ordinary days. Compare Phuket areas and beaches by season. This plan uses one base so that changing hotels does not become a daily task.

The seven-day plan

The order is our suggestion. Swap the boat day and the spare day after checking the forecast and confirming arrangements with the operator.

DayMain planWhat to shorten or replace
1Arrival, check-in and a walk near your hotelWith a late flight, keep only the transfer and dinner
2Your local beach and an easy eveningChoose something on land if swimming conditions are unsuitable
3Old Town and Thai Hua MuseumSave the street walk for a break in the rain; check the museum separately
4One boat tripMove it to the spare day if the operator agrees
5Rest without an early start, then a familiar beachDo not automatically add another long outing
6Weather backup or an activity you chooseUse the rainy-day plan below
7Packing and the airport transferAgree departure time with your driver and airline

For arrival, work out your transport from Phuket Airport in advance. AOT lists buses, taxis, limousine services and car rental separately. That does not establish one fare or journey time to every beach.

Divide the five full days into manageable blocks

Seven calendar days with arrival and departure leave five days between the flights. For planning, divide those into ten half-day blocks. This is our way to allocate time, not a statement of tour duration or road journey times.

ActivityBlocks to set asideWhat the time allowance covers
One boat trip2Getting ready, transfers, the programme and returning
Old Town2Hotel transfers, a walk, Thai Hua and an unhurried lunch
Beach near your hotel4Two days that can be split between mornings and evenings
A free day2Rescheduling the boat trip, resting or using the rainy-day plan

That uses all ten blocks. If the town visit finishes early, the evening does not need another outing. An overnight Khao Sok trip takes four planning blocks: replace the town day and one beach day. You then have a boat trip, Khao Sok, one beach day and one free day. If that feels too busy, remove the boat trip and add rest.

An example when the boat trip is cancelled

Suppose the operator cancels day 4 and confirms a move to day 6. Use the rainy-day plan on day 4, keep day 5 easy and take the boat trip on day 6. Drop any original plan for day 6 instead of trying to preserve both. If the operator does not confirm a new date, leave the day free; refund terms depend on your booking.

With only four full days, allow two for the beach, one for town or a boat trip and one free day. This is an editorial suggestion for a slower trip, not a compulsory programme.

Choose a base that reduces unnecessary journeys

Start with where you want to spend the four beach blocks. Compare the hotel’s actual address with an entrance to your chosen beach: an area name alone does not establish walking distance. Then ask the boat operator for the meeting point and transfer arrangements from that specific hotel.

The map shows areas, not hotel entrances or walking routes. Open two possible bases and compare your ordinary day, airport transfer and planned outings.

A planning card to fill in before booking

Copy these lines into your notes. Filling them in makes it easier to agree dates with your companions and spot incompatible bookings.

  • Flights: dates, local times and airports
  • Base: hotel address, chosen beach and how to reach it
  • Boat day: date, backup date, operator, meeting point and pickup time
  • Changes: the rescheduling deadline and what happens if the operator cancels
  • Town day: Thai Hua or a street walk, current opening hours and the return journey
  • Free day: still open or already taken by a specific booking

Choose one boat trip

If Phi Phi is the priority, start with the tour versus independent ferry comparison. If you are still choosing a destination, compare islands near Phuket. Choosing an island and choosing a boat are separate decisions: confirm the route, stops and included fees.

The evening before departure, check the TMD forecast for the Southern West Coast and the operator’s update. The forecast distinguishes rain, wind and waves. A rain symbol does not prove that a sailing is cancelled, and a clear sky does not guarantee calm water. Check rescheduling and refund terms before paying.

Town day and rainy-day choices

Thai Hua Museum on Krabi Road in Old Town covers the history of Phuket’s Chinese community. Old Town itself is not an indoor attraction: treat the street walk and museum visit as separate plans. Check current opening arrangements and tickets for your date.

For an indoor day, use our rainy-day plan. It separates three areas so you do not combine Aquaria at Central, Old Town and the aquarium at Cape Panwa into one tiring cross-island outing.

Adding Khao Sok

Treat Khao Sok and Cheow Lan Lake as a replacement for part of the week. For an overnight trip, replace the town day and one beach day, as in the block calculation above. Rearrange them into two consecutive days and keep the free day.

Compare a day trip with a lake overnight before booking: transfers, raft-house conditions, meals and the return to your hotel. Do not place the return from the lake on your international departure day without separately working out the road journey.

Adjusting the week

  • With children, leave space between outings and check family options
  • For November, read Phuket’s November weather guide before deciding which days stay flexible
  • If the beach matters most, remove the town or boat outing rather than the rest between them
  • With only four full days, choose either the town visit or the boat trip using the allocation above

FAQ

Do I need an excursion every day?

Not in our suggested plan. One boat day and one town day leave beach time and weather flexibility. The number of outings should fit your pace.

Can I include Khao Sok in a week in Phuket?

Yes, as a replacement for part of the itinerary. Free up two days for an overnight visit and check transfer and accommodation details; do not add it on top of every other outing.
