The Sanctuary of Truth (Prasat Sat Tham in Thai) stands on the Laem Ratchawet headland in Naklua, north Pattaya. It is not a working temple but an open-air museum: a huge all-wood building covered in carvings, begun in 1981 and still unfinished. Hours, prices and rules below come from the museum’s website, checked on 17 October 2026.

What you will see

  • The wooden building. Carved spires, gods, elephants and mythical creatures outside, carved halls inside. The museum calls it the largest wooden castle in the world
  • Carvers at work. Building continues during opening hours, which is why everyone wears a hard hat
  • The viewpoint. From the cliff above the sea you see the whole building, which seems to stand on the water
  • Garden and workshop. A sculpture garden, a woodcarving workshop, a mini zoo, a cafe and the Naklua Kitchen restaurant (09:00-18:00)

How a visit goes

  1. Get to Soi Naklua 12, about 6 km and 12 minutes by car from central Pattaya without traffic
  2. Buy a ticket at the gate or online: day (sold 08:00-17:00) or evening (17:30-19:30)
  3. Walk to the viewpoint; older visitors can ride free transport from there to the building
  4. Collect a hard hat and join a scheduled guided or audio tour, which lasts 45-60 minutes
  5. Afterwards, wander the sculpture garden and watch the carvers

The museum suggests allowing 2-4 hours in total.

The museum runs scheduled English tours many times a day, plus tours in Russian, Arabic, Japanese, Korean and Thai, some with a live guide and some with an audio guide. Times vary by day of the week, so check the Visit Us page before you go. Printed leaflets come in 21 languages.

Getting there on your own

A taxi or a Grab or Bolt ride from central Pattaya is simplest. The museum also describes the public route: a blue songthaew to the Dolphin roundabout, then a songthaew along Pattaya-Naklua Road to Soi Naklua 12 and a motorbike taxi to the gate. From Bangkok it is 149 km, about 2 hours by car on Motorway 7. Parking is free.

Rules and dress code

  • Dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered; a shawl and sarong are lent for a 200-baht deposit
  • Hard hats are compulsory inside
  • No food, drink, pets, smoking or drones

Who it does not suit

  • Beach seekers. This is a museum walk, with no swimming
  • Small children. 2-4 hours of walking and stairs is a lot, even though under-110 cm kids get in free
  • People who dislike schedules. Groups enter at set times

FAQ

How much is the Sanctuary of Truth entrance fee?

According to the museum's website in October 2026, a day ticket is 500 baht for adults and 250 baht for children 110-140 cm tall. The evening tour costs 700 and 350 baht. Children under 110 cm are free, and monks and disabled visitors with a certificate get 50% off.

What time does the Sanctuary of Truth open?

Every day. Day tickets are sold 08:00-17:00 and the day tour runs 08:20-18:00; evening tickets are sold 17:30-19:30 and the evening tour runs 18:20-20:30. Come in the morning if you want time for everything, as the museum suggests 2-4 hours.

What should I wear?

The museum asks visitors to dress modestly, so cover shoulders and knees. If you arrive in shorts or a vest top, you can borrow a shawl and sarong for a 200-baht deposit. Everyone wears a hard hat inside because building work continues.

Is it a working temple?

No. It is a museum and art project, built entirely of wood since 1981, with carvings about Buddhist and Hindu ideas of the world. Nobody comes here to pray, but the modest dress rule still applies.

Can I get a refund on my ticket?

No. The museum does not refund or change tickets. Online tickets are tied to a date and to the day or evening tour, so pick your date with some slack.

Is it accessible for older visitors and wheelchair users?

Mostly. The museum runs free transport from the viewpoint to the building and has lifts, ramps and free wheelchairs inside. There are still plenty of steps, so plan rest stops.
