What you will see

Pattaya Floating Market sits on Sukhumvit Road south of the city centre. Its official website says it has operated since 2008 and shows the riverside life of old Thailand: more than 400 shops and boat vendors selling food and crafts from four regions of the country. The Department of Tourism of Thailand calls it a “new heritage attraction” that recreates simple Thai life, so this is a staged setting, not a market that grew by itself.

Here is what the two official sources list:

  • Shops by region. The north sells wood carving, silverware, silk and paper umbrellas. The centre: rattan furniture and bags. The northeast: mudmee cloth, scented candles and cushions. The south: coconut products, batik and ship models (Department of Tourism directory)
  • Food. The market’s site lists dishes and sweets from different regions and describes them as street food you can eat sitting in a boat
  • Rowing boats. The directory says visitors can paddle themselves and “learn about riverside life”, and the site invites you to eat in traditional rowing boats
  • Dance show. The site announces a traditional Thai dance show every day, without publishing a schedule
  • Teak houses. The directory says the teak houses show the character of each region
  • Zipline. The directory lists a ride from a 15 m tower, 260 m round trip
Wooden pavilions on stilts over the water inside the market
Pavilions on stilts over the water

The complex covers 36,800 sq m according to the directory, about 3.7 hectares. The signs in the photos name zones such as Northeastern and Southern, so it is easy to plan a walk by region.

Opening hours and how to spend your time

The official website says daily from 9:00 to 19:00, with tickets sold until 18:30 (checked 18 October 2026). The Department of Tourism directory shows the same 9:00-19:00 in its hours table, but a text note says 9:00-20:00. Plan by the market’s own site.

How to arrange a visit if you have 2-3 hours (a Thaipedia estimate, not the market’s schedule):

  • Morning. Walk the walkways and shops while it is quieter and less hot. Start with the regional zones that interest you most
  • Midday. Lunch in the food area and a rowing boat
  • Towards sunset. The show and evening light: sunset in Pattaya falls between 17:47 and 18:47 through the year (Thaipedia calculation, NOAA method) and the market closes at 19:00, which leaves about an hour after dusk

How long to allow and when to go

A walk takes 2-3 hours, up to half a day with the zipline and the show. The hours are the same all year.

How to get there

From Central Pattaya it is 9.4 km and about 9 minutes by car without traffic, by OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data (route). The market is on Sukhumvit Road, address on its site: 451/304 Moo 12, Nong Prue, Banglamung, Chonburi 20 150.

  • Taxi or Grab. The simplest option for a day with a stop on the way back
  • Songthaew. Tell the driver “Floating Market” or “Talat Nam Si Phak”
  • Bus from Bangkok. The directory advises taking a Bangkok-Sattahip bus (for example from Ekkamai) and telling the driver you want the Four Regions Floating Market: it stands on the left beside the main road
  • Driving from Bangkok. The directory describes the market just past the turn for South Pattaya, about 4.5 km before Alangkarn, with Thai houses and signs visible from the road

Entry price and what is included

Neither the official website nor the Department of Tourism directory publishes a ticket price. We do not quote one because agents’ prices differ and change. Ask the agent before you buy:

  • whether the rowing boat is included or paid separately
  • how much the zipline costs and what age and weight limits apply
  • whether the show is included and what time it runs on your day
  • whether the ticket differs for foreigners and Thai citizens

No DNP national park fee applies: the market stands on Sukhumvit Road in the city, not inside a national park (by the directory’s coordinates).

There is no confirmed information that the market runs a free hotel shuttle. If an agency promises one, check the terms before paying.

What to do in the rain

The market is built from wooden walkways and pavilions over water. The photos show covered galleries, but most of the site is outdoors and the decking is slippery in the rain. If a shower starts, wait under a roof in the food area or shops and return to the walkways when it eases. In September and October Pattaya averages 213.6 and 224.5 mm by TMD, so go in the morning. We found no official announcement about closing the market in rain.

Safety

  • Walkways and stairs. The photos show steps, bamboo railings and wooden decking. Walk slowly and hold children’s hands near the water
  • Water. These are canals and ponds, swimming is not allowed, and boats are paddled by hand
  • Heat and sun. There is little shade on open stretches, bring water and a hat
  • Zipline. The directory does not name rules, age or weight limits, so ask on site before paying
  • Souvenirs and food. Prices are not posted online, ask the price before buying and check that food looks fresh

Who it suits and who it does not

  • Suits families and travellers short on time. Boats, a show and food areas are gathered on a compact site near the city
  • Suits anyone who wants to try dishes from different regions. The shops are grouped by north, south, northeast and centre
  • Does not suit anyone looking for a local market. It is a tourist complex opened in 2008
  • Does not suit anyone who finds walking hard. There are many walkways and steps

FAQ

What time does Pattaya Floating Market open and close?

The official website says daily from 9:00 to 19:00, with tickets sold until 18:30. The Department of Tourism directory gives 19:00 in its hours table but 20:00 in a text note. Go by the market's own site and arrive by 17:00 so you have time to walk around.

How much does it cost to enter Pattaya Floating Market?

Neither the official website nor the Department of Tourism directory publishes an entry price, so we do not quote one. Ask at the ticket desk or phone the number on the site, and if you buy through an agent, check what the ticket includes: from the descriptions, the boat, the show and the zipline are paid separately or not always included.

Is it a real floating market like those near Bangkok?

No. It is a tourist complex opened in 2008: the site describes it as a riverside community showing old Thai ways of life, and the Department of Tourism says it recreates simple Thai life. Food and crafts from four regions are on sale, but local people do not come here for their groceries.

How do I get to Pattaya Floating Market from Pattaya?

By taxi, Grab or songthaew: it is 9.4 km and about 9 minutes from Central Pattaya without traffic, by OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data. The Department of Tourism directory says that on the Bangkok-Sattahip bus the market is on the left beside the main road, so ask the driver to stop there. The market's site lists no dedicated public transport stop.

What is there to do at the floating market with children?

There are rowing boats, a traditional dance show, elephant sculptures by a pond and areas with food and crafts. The directory lists a zipline from a 15 m tower for thrill seekers, and neither source names age, height or weight limits, so ask on site. For toddlers, 1-2 hours is a reasonable estimate.

Can I go to the floating market in the rain?

You can, but go in the morning on a dry day. By TMD norms Pattaya gets 213.6 mm of rain in September and 224.5 mm in October. The photos show covered galleries, but most of the site is outdoors and the decking is slippery when wet.

Can I combine the market with other places?

Yes. Khao Chi Chan is 14.0 km and about 13 minutes away by car, and the Thepprasit market is about 5.7 km and 7 minutes. Nong Nooch Garden is about 12 km in a straight line, further by road. A morning start fits all of these into one day.
