What is open and what is confirmed

Pattaya’s night markets differ in how well their hours are confirmed. The official Department of Tourism of Thailand directory gives hours for Walking Street and for the Floating Market. For the best-known night market, Thepprasit, and for the Jomtien market we found no official TAT or city hours, so we give them below from Thai Holiday Guide and mark that they need checking.

Thepprasit Night Market

Thepprasit Night Market has operated since 1999 in south Pattaya, on Thepprasit Road near its junction with Sukhumvit Road, and according to Thai Holiday Guide draws mainly residents of Pattaya, with fewer tourists. The market is covered, with more than 500 stalls: clothes, shoes, bags, jewellery, watches, phone accessories, toys and household goods. OpenStreetMap marks it as a market on Thepprasit Road (12.9084, 100.8930).

  • Food. Barbecued seafood, pork skewers, roast duck over rice, papaya salad, mango sticky rice, coconut ice cream and fresh juices (Thai Holiday Guide)
  • When to go. Fully Friday to Sunday, about 17:30-23:00, fewer stalls on weekdays (about a third closed). Arrive before 19:00: by 20:00 on Saturday the lanes are packed
  • Entry. Free
  • Fakes. The source warns that copies of brands are sold openly and customs confiscate them at the airport

Walking Street: night market or entertainment street

By the Department of Tourism directory, Walking Street runs along South Pattaya Beach to Bali Hai Pier, daily 18:00-02:00. The directory lists restaurants, bars, and magic, dance and singing shows. It is not a market in the usual sense: the street is built around evening entertainment. The directory suggests parking at Bali Hai Pier, paid on site, then a minibus.

How to get there

From Central Pattaya by OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data:

  • Thepprasit. 5.1 km and about 6 minutes without traffic (route). Thai Holiday Guide recommends a songthaew or motorbike taxi: parking at the market fills quickly at weekends
  • Jomtien. 6.3 km and about 10 minutes without traffic
  • Walking Street. South Pattaya Beach and Bali Hai Pier, in the city centre

When to go

The markets open around sunset or after: sunset in Pattaya falls between 17:47 and 18:47 through the year (Thaipedia calculation, NOAA method). Thepprasit runs fully Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so plan the trip for a weekend. Walking Street runs daily. Night markets run all year, though by TMD September and October are the wettest months (213.6 and 224.5 mm).

What to do in the rain

By Thai Holiday Guide, Thepprasit sits on a covered site, so light rain does not cancel the trip. In a heavy downpour wait under a roof and travel on a dry road: the parking fills up. Walking Street stays open, but it is a street under the sky.

Safety

  • Cash. By Thai Holiday Guide vendors at Thepprasit work mostly in cash, so bring baht
  • Crowds. On Saturday by 20:00 the lanes are packed, keep your bag in front and your phone in a closed pocket
  • Fakes and imports. Copies of brands may not be imported, and customs confiscate them
  • Scams. For typical schemes in resort towns, read our guide to scams in Thailand
  • Water. Carry a bottle of water: you get thirsty quickly in a crowd

What to bring

  • Cash in baht
  • Light shoes for long walking
  • Water and wet wipes
  • A bag you can wear in front
  • A bag for purchases

Who it suits and who it does not

  • Suits street food lovers. Thepprasit gathers dishes on one site
  • Suits anyone who wants to shop cheaply in the evening. The choice of clothes and souvenirs is large
  • Does not suit anyone who dislikes crowds. It is tight on Saturday evening
  • Does not suit anyone looking for a market on water. For that there is the Floating Market, which runs by day

FAQ

Which night markets run in Pattaya and on which days?

The official directory confirms hours for Walking Street: daily 18:00-02:00. Thepprasit Night Market runs fully Friday to Sunday, about 17:30-23:00 per Thai Holiday Guide, with only part of the stalls open on weekdays. Jomtien Night Market is marked on OpenStreetMap, but we did not confirm its schedule.

Where is Thepprasit Night Market and how do I get there?

It is marked on OpenStreetMap on Thepprasit Road in south Pattaya. From Central Pattaya it is 5.1 km and about 6 minutes by car without traffic by OSRM. Thai Holiday Guide recommends a songthaew or motorbike taxi because the market's parking fills quickly.

How much does it cost to enter a night market?

Thai Holiday Guide says entry to Thepprasit is free and you pay only for what you buy. Walking Street is a street without a ticket by the Department of Tourism directory: parking at Bali Hai Pier is paid on site. We have no data for Jomtien.

What can I eat and buy at Thepprasit?

Thai Holiday Guide lists clothes, shoes, bags, jewellery, watches, phone accessories, toys and household goods. For food it names barbecued seafood, pork skewers, roast duck over rice, papaya salad, mango sticky rice, coconut ice cream and fresh juices. We do not quote prices: sources give them without dates.

Can I go to a night market with children?

In Thaipedia's view Thepprasit and Jomtien suit families: they are street markets with food. For Walking Street the directory lists shows, restaurants and entertainment, and the decision about taking children is yours. Reach Thepprasit before 19:00: Thai Holiday Guide says the main lanes are shoulder-to-shoulder by 20:00 on Saturday.

Can I take fake branded goods home?

No. Thai Holiday Guide warns that copies of watches, bags and sunglasses are sold openly at Thepprasit and that customs confiscate them at the airport. Buy food and souvenirs, and buy brands only in shops.

How is a night market different from the Floating Market?

Thepprasit is an ordinary street market on dry ground that runs in the evening. By its official website the Floating Market is open by day, 9:00-19:00, and was built in 2008 as a tourist complex on water. More in our guide to the [Floating Market](/en/travel/pattaya/excursions/floating-market/).
