Find your situation
Buying a plan, downloading an eSIM profile and having a working line are separate stages. Save the exact error message and start with the relevant row. Setting names depend on your phone model and operating-system version.
| What happens | Where to start |
|---|---|
| The QR code will not add a profile | Device compatibility, carrier lock and the seller’s installation instructions |
| The profile is installed but there is no network | Enabled line, registration, coverage and account status |
| There is a network but no internet | Selected mobile-data SIM, active plan and provider settings |
| Data works but calls do not | Whether the purchased plan includes voice calls |
If you have not bought a plan yet, start with choosing a tourist SIM or eSIM. This page deals with a connection problem rather than comparing prices.
Step 1: connect to Wi-Fi and check the purchase
Open your order confirmation or the provider’s app. Check the destination covered, validity period, activation status and registration requirements. Successful payment does not by itself confirm that the line is ready to work in Thailand.
Check your exact phone model and regional version: a device family name does not establish eSIM support. For an iPhone, check Apple’s device requirements and whether the phone is locked to another carrier. If a QR code has already been used or produces an error, send the message to your provider; do not assume unlimited reinstalls are allowed.
Apple explicitly says not to erase an eSIM as a troubleshooting step unless directed by the carrier. Restoring service may require a replacement profile. Do not begin by deleting the eSIM, resetting the whole phone or buying another plan.
Step 2: check the line and mobile data
On an iPhone, open cellular settings, find the intended line and check that it is enabled. With two SIMs, confirm which line is selected for mobile data. Check the result after each change separately.
On a Google Pixel, start at Settings → Network & internet → SIMs. Check Use SIM and Mobile data, then the default SIM for internet access. Other Android devices may use different labels and menu locations; use the manufacturer’s help rather than expecting an identical menu.
Apple’s troubleshooting steps include switching the line off and on, toggling Airplane Mode and restarting the phone. These are separate attempts, not guaranteed fixes. If the phone has a mobile-data limit, check that too; the phone’s usage counter may differ from the operator’s records.
Step 3: use your provider’s roaming and APN instructions
There is no single roaming setting that fits every tourist eSIM. An international reseller and a local Thai line may have different requirements. Read the instructions from the provider that issued the profile and change the setting only for the intended SIM.
Treat APN settings and manual network selection the same way. Do not copy a random access-point name from someone else’s review. Ask your provider for the settings required by your plan and device.
Step 4: separate coverage from an account problem
If the connection fails only in one place, try another accessible location. If there is no network anywhere, ask the operator to check activation, registration, outages and account restrictions. A 5G icon does not itself guarantee a particular speed.
If data works but a normal phone call does not, check what the plan includes: a data-only package may not include voice calls or SMS. For QR payments, the wallet’s registration requirements also matter; an internet connection does not replace them.
Who to contact
For a direct AIS purchase, its tourist page lists AIS Shop and 1175. True and dtac list True dtac Shop, True 1242 and dtac 1678. Check call availability and charges under your own package; if the line is not working, use Wi-Fi and an official support channel.
If you bought the eSIM from an international reseller, contact that provider first. Ask the provider that issued the profile about reissuing it.
Prepare your phone model, system version, current country, when the problem began and the exact error text. Send an order reference only through a secure official channel. Do not post activation QR codes, passwords or passport details in public discussions.
FAQ
Should I delete the eSIM if mobile data does not work?
No. Apple says not to erase an eSIM for troubleshooting unless directed by the carrier. First check the data line, active plan and provider settings.
Does a Thailand eSIM need data roaming enabled?
It depends on the provider and plan. Follow its instructions and change the setting on the intended line; there is no universal answer for every eSIM.
Why does data work but calling does not?
Check whether the package includes voice calls and SMS. A data-only plan may not provide them. If calls are included, ask the operator to check the line.
