If you are choosing between Phuket and Koh Samui for November, the short answer is that Phuket gets noticeably less rain. Below are the figures for two stations of the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD): Phuket and Ko Samui. These are normals for 1991-2020, that is monthly averages, not a forecast for November 2026.

What this means for a trip

  • Beach holiday in November: if you cannot move your dates, Phuket is the safer bet. Bring indoor plans for grey days and watch the beach flags
  • Samui in November: possible, but with spare days and a flexible booking; the island’s driest months are February and April
  • Driest option in November: look at the east side of the Gulf, Pattaya and Hua Hin; the regions are compared in Thailand in November
  • Your own dates and other beaches: the rainfall comparison tool shows November for every coastal region

Who this conclusion does not fit

Normals average 30 years. In a single year November may be dry on Samui and wet in Phuket. One station per island does not describe every beach: weather differs between the west of Phuket and the different coasts of Samui. Sea temperature and wave height are not in the table.

Method and source

The figures are transcribed from the TMD report “Climatological Data of Thailand for 30 Year Period (1991-2020)”: Phuket station (WMO 48 564, printed p. 82) and Ko Samui station (WMO 48 550, printed p. 71). The file was read on 24 October 2026. A rainy day is counted at a 0.1 mm threshold. The November share of the year and the 2.5 times ratio are our calculations from the same values. Phuket’s monthly data are also on the page Phuket weather by month.
