Anutin orders Pattaya motorcycle taxis back into orange vests, MP says
Since 19 October, Bang Lamung district has been moving Pattaya's motorcycle taxi riders from orange vests into dark blue ones. On 21 October, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul ordered a return to orange, according to a Chonburi MP. There is no official date for reversing the change yet.
What happened
- The colour change is part of a programme to regulate motorcycle taxis in Bang Lamung district: 564 stands and 5,281 registered riders
- Riders complained that the dark blue vest is hard to see at night and tourists do not recognise it as a motorcycle taxi
- Riders paid 550 baht for the new vest themselves; about 5,000 are needed and almost half have already been bought
- Some riders have already gone back to their old orange vests
- The authorities have not said when the decision will be reversed or whether riders will get their money back for the blue vests
What it means for youFor now, you may see registered motorcycle taxi riders in Pattaya wearing either orange or blue vests.
